On Apil 14, 2010 Philippe Aghion delivered a seminar at FEEM on "The Environment and Directed Technical Change". We report here an interview held on that occasion with prof. Aghion.

  • How do you see the future of economics? Do you think that the conventional economic paradigm is unscathed, or do you foresee major changes underway due to the crisis?
  • I know that this is a difficult question, but a natural one to address to one of the world top experts in economic growth. Do you think that major economies are getting out of the wood, or that more pain will still be experienced in the way to recovery?
  • You are in a privileged position to evaluate human capital and higher education across the Atlantic. Which reforms would you suggest to improve European universities?
What are in your opinion the key issues in climate change policies?
  • Which economic instruments can support innovation under environmental constraints? and what is needed to direct technical change towards optimal environmental policies?
