FEEM lead authors of the IPCC Working Group III will gather in New Zealand from 19 to 23 March 2012 to discuss and review the “zero-order-draft” of the Fifth Assessment Report (AR5). AR5 will put emphasis on assessing the socio-economic aspects of climate change and implications for sustainable development, risk management and the framing of a response through both adaptation and mitigation.

FEEM continues its active contribution to the drafting of the IPCC 5th Assessment Report (AR5) with the participation of its four senior researchers Valentina Bosetti, Carlo Carraro, Emanuele Massetti and Massimo Tavoni in the Second Lead Authors meeting for Working Group III, to be held in New Zealand from 19 to 23 March 2012.

The Working Group III will discuss and review the AR5 “zero-order-draft” meant to prepare the “first-order-draft” which will then be reviewed by scientific experts in August 2012. The reviewing process will continue later this year with the third Lead Authors meeting for Working Group III in November 2012, meant to prepare the “second-order-draft”. AR5 will be issued in early 2014 and FEEM lead authors will participate in the drafting of the following chapters:

  • Chapter 2:  Integrated Risk and Uncertainty Assessment of Climate Change Response Policies
  • Chapter 5:  Drivers, Trends and Mitigation
  • Chapter 16:  Cross-cutting Investment and Finance Issues

The four FEEM researchers are among the 831 climate experts selected by the IPCC Working Group Bureaux from 3,000 nominees.
