Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei (FEEM) and SDG Center for Africa (SDGC/A) at the FEEM’s headquarters in Milan on July 11th, 2019 signed a multi-year Partnership Agreement to implement cutting-edge research, advisory and capacity building programs for governments in Africa on energy systems and markets.

The main areas of interest to be implemented by the partnership are aligned with some of the identified crucial issues for African socioeconomic dimension, notably assessment of national and regional development plans, country-level analysis of energy systems, supply-chain analysis and natural-resources management (in particular water). The development of focused research on such themes will be directed to strategically support the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in Africa, by providing framework models for policy assessment of national development plans and the quantification of the alignment of national policies with international frameworks (e.g. NDCs).

Moreover, integrated models can act as tools able to identify bottlenecks for national electrification, enable the potential of key supply chains through the optimum deployment of energy resources, and consequently proposing policy solutions to national policymakers and key stakeholders. With this new partnership FEEM aims to enhance its impact in the African Continent, working with local scientific community, civil society and Institutions.
