FEEM at COP23 Bonn
From 6 to
17 November, 2017 nations of the world will meet at the UN Climate Change
Conference (COP23) in Bonn, Germany, to
advance the aims of the Paris Agreement and
achieve progress on its implementation guidelines. The
conference is hosted by the Secretariat of the UN Framework Convention on
Climate Change (UNFCCC), and presided over by Fiji.
“Cooperation
makes COP23 possible. It also raises awareness of the vulnerability of islands
and all nations. And it opens the door to even more collaboration and support –
for resilient communities and for the transition to growth powered by clean
energy”, UNFCCC Executive Secretary Patricia Espinosa said about the Conference.
FEEM has
been a significant actor in the climate change debate since its origin. Through
its intense research activity on a broad array of topics and through its
worldwide networks, FEEM has played a key role in many important national and
international events and projects, and its research has appeared in leading
scientific publications.
FEEM has
been contributing to the UNFCCC negotiation process and has given its scientific contribution to the Intergovernmental Panel
on Climate Change (IPCC) process since 1995, in particular to the working group dealing with the possible pathways for
mitigation of greenhouse gases and related costs. An increasing number of FEEM
researchers have been Lead Authors of the Assessment Reports (AR) drafted
throughout the years.
FEEM will
take part in COP23 Bonn, co-organizing and participating in side-events as
follow.
More
real-time information about the FEEM’s
commitment to COP23 are available visiting the website of its Initiative on
Climate Change policy and Governance (ICCG).
Furthermore, a follow-up on FEEM’s historic commitment to UNFCCC is available here.
