The Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei (Environment Committee), with the support of the Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei, is pleased to present an international Conference on the many problems concerning the availability and use of energy resources.

Prominent scientists, including Carlo Rubbia (Physics Nobel Laureate in 1984), Michael Graetzel (Balzan Prize in 2009), Pamela Silver (Harvard University) and Daniel Nocera (recipient of the Eni Italgas Prize for Energy & the Environment, Harvard University) will convene to present recent developments in basic and applied research in fossil and non-conventional energy production, use and distribution.

The shift from hydrocarbons towards new sources of non-conventional energy is based on the awareness that it is necessary to develop new technologies capable of harmonizing both energy and economic security.

The Conference will address a broad range of topics through a series of plenary lectures, followed by a public debate/question time:

  • economic development
  • geostrategic world scenarios
  • problem of resources
  • role of hydrocarbons in the forthcoming energy scenario
  • technologic innovations in the solar sector
  • biomasses and the renewed role due to genetic engineering
  • infrastructures: electrification, smart grid
  • wind power
  • environment and energy
  • perspectives on safe nuclear energy
