After the Rio+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, in June 2012, the debate on sustainable development and green growth has increasingly focused on monitoring the effective progress in wellbeing, moving from qualitative to quantitative analysis and paving the way for the transition from Millennium Development Goals to the new Sustainable Development Goals.
The International conference on "Methodologies and Indicators for Green Growth measurement" will be held on November 12, 2013 at FEEM’s headquarters in Milan, Italy.
Its main objective is to assess the state of the art in quantitative measurement of sustainability, connecting theoretical background, practical assessment and policy perspectives. Distinguished experts will discuss the latest insights from international institutions and academia to measure green growth and sustainable development.
The conference will also provide an overview of the most updated findings of the Sustainability Index developed by Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei (FEEM SI).
The FEEM Sustainability Index represents a first attempt to provide an ex-ante assessment of overall sustainability performances of the vast majority of countries all over the world. This is in contrast to the available and retrospective single indicators and composite indices, proposed by international institutions and the academia in the last two decades, for the quantitative assessment of sustainable development. The main added value of this new approach is the possibility to compare future outcomes (and trade-offs) of a set of different policies which have been proposed within the debate on sustainability.
