Following on the publication of the first part of the Fifth Assessment Report (AR5) of the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), the Summary for Policymakers of the Working Groups II and III are soon going to be released. In this framework, the ICCG has taken the initiative of organising two ad hoc seminars to discuss with renowned experts the most relevant outcomes of the reports. The March 31st seminar concerns the Working Group II contribution, entitled “Climate Change 2014: Impacts, Adaptation, and Vulnerability”.

Georg Umgiesser
Laurea cum laude in Oceanography (1986), researcher from 1992, second laurea cum laude in Physics (1997) and senior scientist at ISMAR Venice since 2001. He held various courses on oceanography and numerical techniques at Venice and Padua University. He is heading a group of 5 scientists that mainly studies lagoons and the coastal zone through numerical modeling His Interests are:Study of lagoons and other shallow water bodies through the application of numerical models, mainly in the field of hydrodynamics and sediment transport. Development of numerical tools that are especially suited for this task. Additional interests: 1) Numerical forecasts of storm surge in the Adriatic Sea and especially the Venice lagoon; 2) Sea-lagoon interaction and exchange rates; 3) Residence time and transport time scales that characterize lagoons and semi-enclosed water bodies; 4) Training of scientists from developing countries in numerical modeling. He wrote more than 100 papers between refereed journals (50 on ISI), refereed books (10), proceedings (60) and other journals.

Introduced by:
Francesco Bosello

Graduated at the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, he received a Master degree in economics from the University College of London (UK) and a Doctoral degree in economics from the University of Venice.
He is presently associate researcher at the Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei (FEEM) of Milan, assistant professor of economics at the University Statale of Milan and affiliate scientist of the Italian “Euromediterranean Center for Climate Change” (CMCC). His main interests are focused on climate-change policy and modelling with particular emphasis on negotiation aspects of international environmental agreements and on optimal policy design considering adaptation and mitigation options. He is being currently involved in several research projects (ENSEMBLE, CIRCE, SESAME, VECTOR, CLIBIO, IN-STREAM) and he is undertaking research activities concentrated in the area of climate change impact assessment and in the design of optimal mitigation and adaptation strategies developing integrated assessment modelling tools. Climate change impact studies tackled within these programmes concern for instance: health, extreme events, sea-level rise, agriculture, tourism.

Working language: Italian.
Admission free subject to availability. The lecture will be also broadcasted via streaming. Registration is required. For information and registration: events@iccgov.org or 041/2700443
