The project analyses the political context of the Gulf region, which is today highly fragmented due to the two main fractures (KSA+UAE vs Qatar; KSA+UAE vs Iran) and a slow US withdrawal, which has exacerbated national fears about security.
In this way, the political context in which the different States operate will be clear.
On this basis, the main production and export trends of the Gulf Countries will be analysed, taking into consideration the different energy resources produced (KSA, UAE, Iran – oil; Qatar, Iran – gas/LNG).
Analysing the role of energy in the regional states, the political and economic importance that hydrocarbons have in these countries will be taken into account.
Finally, the project will outline the main drivers of geopolitics and energy geo-economy within the region by external actors, such as the U.S., UK, France, Turkey, China and Russia.

  • Overview of the energy resource production trends of the Gulf countries in the political context of the region
  • Identification of the drivers of geopolitics and energy geoeconomics within the region by external actors
  • Publication of a FEEM Working Paper and of related dissemination articles
