RAPIDO is a Specific Support Action built up for the analysis of current best practices concerning the development of innovation in agriculture, forestry, the food sector and rural areas, as well as promising methods to transfer knowledge to different target groups regarded at as crucial for initiating innovation in rural areas.

RAPIDO is a Specific Support Action built up for the analysis of current best practices concerning the development of innovation in agriculture, forestry, the food sector and rural areas, as well as promising methods to transfer knowledge to different target groups regarded at as crucial for initiating innovation in rural areas.

The objective was to point out key actions and sectors which could facilitate innovative actions in the EU agricultural sector and rural areas in general identifying innovative actions able to support the consolidation of European agriculture’s role as an economically competitive and environmentally sustainable activity. The main results from the analysis of projects coming from European rural areas with different socio-economic structures point into three main directions for the design of strategies: diversification strategies within single initiatives, conscious behaviour, cooperation and collective learning as strategies for regional development, and networking among all different actors as e prerequisite for successful implementation.

Furthermore the collection of information has put into evidence the high importance of impacts from innovative activities. on intangible assets of rural societies as knowledge, cohesion and quality of life.

The recommendations have been published under the form of policy briefs, addressing policy makers as well as interested stakeholders, furthermore a documentation database of innovative projects a set of indicators for the assessment of innovation strategies for rural areas have been produced.
