EUDialogue aims at discussing with key policymakers and selected stakeholders the costs and benefits of pursuing the EU ‘climate leadership’ with a particular view to designing both politically and economically viable mid and long term strategies. Taking place in three different sessions (April/2010-Madrid, June/2010-Warsaw, October/2010-Venice), EUDialogue provides a new arena where strategies and policies can mature through a direct and fruitful collaboration between high-level decision-makers, with the objective to facilitate formulation and implementation.

EUDialogue takes up the challenge to discuss with key policymakers and selected stakeholders the costs and benefits of pursuing the EU ‘climate leadership’ with a particular view to designing both politically and economically viable mid and long term strategies.

EUDialogue starts from the assumption that acceleration (and even continuation) of EU climate policies will require more elements of coordination or in some areas, harmonized medium to long-term EU approach to climate change, energy, budget and finance, trade and investment or development. EUDialogue attempts to create a shared vision and understanding among its participants on the long-term issues and discuss, identify and drive strategies to meet short, medium and long-term EU targets.
This shared understanding provides the foundation upon which a series of concrete and pragmatic issues for EU policies will be examined. To this purpose, each EUDialogue session selects the key topics to be analyzed in-depth. In particular, EUDialogue focuses particularly on removing barriers and overcoming obstacles towards more stringent targets and thereby allow the EU to continue leadership. Key obstacles that the EUDialogue addresses are other policies to complement the carbon price and to address non-ETS sectors, intra-EU equity concerns especially in relationship to the new EU member states (EU-12), international finance and technology.
