This project will contribute to the empirical literature on the diffusion of climate friendly and energy efficient technologies. Results will be of relevance both for the general literature in innovation economics and for the modelling community.

This project will contribute to the empirical literature on the diffusion of climate friendly and energy efficient technologies in three respects.
First, the analysis of technology diffusion is extended to include both fast developing and developing countries, which represent future high emitters of GHGs and which need to decouple economic activity from anthropogenic emissions to foster economic development. Second, the project will assess the contribution of important drivers of technology diffusion so far largely ignored in environmental and energy economics, such as IPRs regimes, human capital, education expenditures and attainment, and environmental policy.
Third, environmental performance dynamics resulting from the adoption of new environmentally friendly technologies will be analyzed, thus exploring the missing link between technology diffusion and adoption.
Results will be of relevance both for the general literature in innovation economics and for the modelling community.
