Impact of Grid-Scale Electricity Storage and Electric Vehicles on Renewable Energy Penetration: A Case Study for Italy



FEEM researcher Michel Noussan has co-authored the paper "Impact of Grid-Scale Electricity Storage and Electric Vehicles on Renewable Energy Penetration: A Case Study for Italy" published today in the Special Issue Grid-Scale Energy Storage Management of the journal Energies. The study analyzes some future scenarios of electricity consumption in Italy, with different levels of penetration from renewable sources. Considering different trends in the evolution of electricity penetration in the transport sector, the study aims to assess the potential benefit of energy storage systems supporting the electricity grid. The results show that the flexibility provided by accumulation would allow reducing the installed power of renewable sources, but doubts remain concerning low-cost technological solutions.

E' stato pubblicato oggi nella Special Issue Grid-Scale Energy Storage Management della rivista scientifica Energies l'articolo "Impact of Grid-Scale Electricity Storage and Electric Vehicles on Renewable Energy Penetration: A Case Study for Italy" cui ha contribuito il ricercatore FEEM, Michel Noussan. Lo studio analizza alcuni scenari futuri di consumo di energia elettrica in Italia, con diversi livelli di penetrazione di generazione da fonte rinnovabile. Considerando anche diversi trend di evoluzione della penetrazione elettrica nel settore dei trasporti, lo studio intende valutare il potenziale beneficio di sistemi di accumulo di energia a supporto della rete elettrica. I risultati indicano che la flessibilità fornita dall'accumulo permetterebbe di ridurre la potenza installata di fonti rinnovabili, ma permangono dubbi sulle soluzioni tecnologiche che potranno essere economicamente vantaggiose.
