Dr. Akbar Hossain Kanan is an environmentalist, focusing his research on environmental change and adaptation strategies (e.g., nature-based solutions). His research interests are in line with UN-SDGs No. 13 (Climate Action) and No. 15 (Life on Land). He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Forestry and Environmental Science from the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Bangladesh). Furthermore, he achieved the Erasmus Mundus Master’s double degree in Forest Science at the University of Padova (Italy) and Mediterranean Forestry and Natural Resources Management at the University of Lisbon (Portugal). In 2023, Mr. Kanan earned his Ph.D. in Land, Environment, Resources and Health at the University of Padova. During his Ph.D., he assessed anthropogenic and climate change-related threats (e.g., sea level rise and cyclonic storms) in the Sundarbans using remote sensing and geospatial tools to understand the impact on the coastal ecosystem services of Bangladesh and India. He currently contributes to the “Climate Change Adaptation” Research Program at FEEM in Venice. He enjoys traveling, friendship, and leadership in addition to research.
