Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei Takes Part in the Event "LESC at COP25"

Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei will take part in the Low-Emissions Solutions Conference (LESC) that will be held on December 9-10, 2019 in Madrid, Spain. In particular, FEEM will intervene in “The Systems Transformation for a 1.5 Degree World” event, a special edition of the Low-Emissions Solutions Conference taking place alongside COP25 in partnership with WBCSD, and ICLEI.

LESC is aimed at problem solving, brainstorming, and global co-creation to inform nations about the latest technology developments. It brings together technical experts and world-leading scientists, engineers and innovators from business, academia, and cities, to share knowledge, exchange information, identify bottlenecks, discuss best practices, and prioritize future research in order to set common technological trajectories for a decarbonized economy as well as the transformations necessary in each sector. Moreover, with a dialogue between business, government and academia, LESC aims to help UNFCCC negotiators understand how to ramp up ambition on their NDCs and the technologies available to them to populate their Low Emission Development Strategies (LEDs).

This year's event at COP25 will build off the learning from the Roadmap to 2050 A Manual for National to Decarbonize by Mid-Century report, a manual for countries to decarbonize their power, industry, transport and buildings sectors by mid-century provided by Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei (FEEM) and the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN). The report provides an overview of the latest decarbonization technologies available for national governments to populate their low-emission development strategies as outlined in article 4.19 of the Paris Agreement. Following the Paris Climate Agreement’s aim to strengthen the global response to the climate crisis “in the context of sustainable development and efforts to eradicate poverty,” the report is conceived on a "systems approach," aspiring to simultaneously address multiple objectives and promote policy instruments and technological solutions that can be used across sectors. The multiple objectives span decarbonization and environmental sustainability, economic prosperity (including poverty reduction), and social inclusion that leaves no one behind. The report is defined by 4 technical summaries: power, industry, transport, and buildings. In order to make sense of the very complex and integrated system of energy and power, the authors of this report have identified Six Pillars of Decarbonization from which every country can begin to develop their roadmap to decarbonization by mid-century.
