On the way to Paris: FEEM at the COP21 Climate Conference

The XXI Conference of the Parties (COP 21) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) will be held in Paris from 30 November to 11 December 2015.

Aim of the conference is to deliver a new universal climate change agreement that keeps a global temperature rise under 2 degrees C.

Within this framework, FEEM will co-organize these side events:

• December  7, 2015 (13:00 – 14:15) session on "Financing Mitigation: How to Get to an Equitable Global Financing Regime?".
  This event is organized in collaboration with FERDI (Fondation pour les Etudes et Recherches sur le Développement International) and France Stratégie within the session "Climate Finance"

• December 8, 2015 (11:30 – 13:00) in the Blue Zone – "Can National Policies and INDCs alone lead to a Workable and Effective Climate Regime?"
  This side event examines how INDCs can be implemented after the Paris agreement. It identifies a set of policies (with focus on carbon pricing) at the national and international level (including trade, technology, forestry and regional policies) to achieve INDCs. On this occasion, it will be presented the book: "Toward a workable and Effective Climate Agreement" published by Scott Barrett (Columbia University), Carlo Carraro (University Ca ' Foscari of Venice and FEEM) and Jaime de Melo (FERDI).   This event is co-organized by FERDI, Ca' Foscari University of Venice and Climate Works Foundation, in collaboration with FEEM.

• December 9, 2015 (10.30-12.00) in the Japanese Pavillon (Blue zone), the side-event: “Transparency, Policy Surveillance, and Levels of Effort”
  This event is organized in collaboration with RFF e RITE. FEEM Speakers: Prof. Carlo Carraro and Prof. Massimo Tavoni

• December, 9, 2015 (15:00 – 16:30) – "Multi-Level Climate Governance: An Integrated Analysis of National, Regional and Local Policies"
  This side event assesses the current framework of multi-level governance for climate change control, providing an integrated analysis of national, regional, and urban policies and commitments. By comparing INDCs according to different metrics, it provides an overview of their future implementation
  This event is co-organised by FEEM, University Luigi Bocconi, Institute of Energy and Environment Economics and Policy (IEFE) and University of Edinburgh. FEEM Speakers: Prof. Carlo Carraro, Prof. Massimo Tavoni

• December  4,  (17:00-19:00) – OECD Pavillon: “Unequal Costs of Climate Change: Economics of Impacts and Adaptation at the Regional Level”.

• December 9, 2015 (11:30 – 13:30) –  "The IPCC at a Crossroads: Enhancing the Usefulness of IPCC to the UNFCCC Process"
  The IPCC’s past success in synthesizing large volumes of research and communicating the results to policymakers does not guarantee future success. We discuss problems and challenges that the IPCC faces and address two questions: Is the IPCC doing the right things? Is the IPCC doing things right?
  This event is co-organized by PIK, Harvard University and Stanford University. FEEM Speaker: Prof. Carlo Carraro

• December 10, "Regions and Climate Change: a Major Challenge for local Communities".
