Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei (FEEM) is looking for a qualified and motivated researcher to fill a position in the field of Climate Change Adaptation Modelling. The candidate will join the team of “Climate Change Adaptation in Coastal Areas” (ADAPT@VE) a research program aimed at understanding the current societal challenges in response to the need for adapting to climate change and answering key questions concerning the multi-scale dynamic relationships between global drivers and local adaptive complex social and ecological systems.

Additionally, FEEM maintains robust global partnerships with research institutions, particularly in the field of economics, providing ample opportunities for extensive research and the sharing of findings through participation in international conferences and engagement with stakeholders. The following research area and competences are foreseen to complement those of the group already established:

Spatial data analysis and integrated modelling.

The selected applicants will be based in Venice (Italy) and will primarily focus on research projects. The candidate will also be asked to contribute to internal activities like seminars, webinars and to participate in conferences, workshops, and stakeholders’ events. As part of his/her duties, the candidate will have to finalize the research efforts in scientific articles, book chapters, and also in nontechnical products with societal impact like policy briefs.

The job assignments are expected to begin as soon as possible. Gross salary is competitive at national level and will be based on qualification and experience.

Requirements

The ADAPT@VE program focuses on practical research in environmental economics and modeling. To qualify for the job, you must have strong quantitative skills, which you can prove with at least an MSc degree in a relevant field like economics, environmental sciences, engineering, or physics. A PhD degree is not compulsory but is highly valued.

A strong methodological background and motivation are of fundamental relevance, while competences and experiences in the field of climate change adaptation and coastal areas are not required, but appreciated.

Moreover, the ideal candidate:

  • Is familiar with advanced techniques for modeling complex social and environmental systems.
  • Has a sound quantitative foundation in statistics and mathematics.
  • Is proficient in widely-used data analysis software such as R, Python and QGIS.
  • Can be effectively integrated in an international setting, with English as the primary working language.
  • Has a strong commitment to the development of research projects.
  • Possesses the ability to work autonomously.
