This research area analyses the role of risk and uncertainty on environmental and climate policy making.

This research area analyses the role of risk and uncertainty on environmental and climate policy making. The uncertainties considered regard both physical and socio-economic systems, with specific focus on technologies and innovation. Incorporating them into the assessment of environmental and climate policies allows devising strategies which are robust and adaptive. Research employs complex models, including decision theory, dynamic and stochastic programming, etc. In order to design and evaluate policies incorporating uncertainty, a key element is understanding individual risks and uncertainty perception issues and how they might relate to alternative normative criteria. This stream of research will be based on methods such as surveys and lab experiments. Finally, in order to better understand how uncertainty affects policy, this research area covers thefield of political and sociological sciences.
