Global Compact Network Italy – GCNI

The Global Compact Network Italy (GCNI) is a network established to contribute to the development in Italy of the "Global Pact", a project designed to promote the culture of corporate citizenship launched in 1999 by the former Secretary-General of the United Nations Kofi Annan. Its mission is to make sure that the Global Compact will not only become better known and receive more adhesions, but that it will be taken more seriously, by the adherent enterprises and their partners, as a tool in undertaking social responsibility.

FEEM is a founding member of the GCNI Foundation, born in 2013, and hosts its headquarter.

GCNI’s goal is to facilitate the progress of participating companies in implementing the UN Ten Principles and in producing their COPs aiming at creating opportunities for multi-stakeholder engagement and collective actions. The Network operates as an information platform, giving support and coordination to Italian companies and organizations which resolve to share, support and employ a whole range of universal principles in matters of human rights, labour, environment and the fight against corruption, thereby contributing to the accomplishment of "a more wide-ranging and sustainable global economy".

The Global Compact Network Italy work programme is divided into three types of activities, which include:

promotion, with reference to the initiatives aimed at disseminating the Global Compact Ten Principlesand the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. This kind of activities include also the initiatives of presentation of the Italian Network and of sharing of the Global Compact experience in Italy within new international and European contexts.

knowledge, with reference to sustainability themes and fields linked to them within the general Global Compact framework. These activities are mainly aimed to a knowledge sharing and a continuous update on the issues (through conferences, workshops, seminars, etc.) and represent an important opportunity for experiences exchange between participating organizations. Planning these initiatives, the Network tends to favor the involvement of representatives from the international policy-community and organizations focused on the issues, with the aim to ensure an effective enrichment in terms of wealth of theoretical and practical knowledge.

support, which involves actions of assistance and support to companies and organizations members of the Network in the implementation of the Global Compact Ten Principles and of the SDGs both in the core business and in their sphere of influence, and reporting their sustainability performances.
