Localizing the 2030 Agenda

SDSN Italia SDGs City Index
The index provides the level of implementation of the SDGs in 101 Italian cities, based on 39 indicators over 16 SDGs, and it aims to raise awareness and disseminate culture on sustainable development, in order to help local leaders identify their territories’ priorities and thus establish the target areas for their policies.

2030 Agenda regionalization
The Report for the Regions provides an inter-regional comparison relative to the SDGs. Analysing the Italian regions based on 153 indicators over 16 SDGs, it composes the regional relative placement, compared to the average of the regions, in each of the Goals: this, in order to support the policy makers in the setting of their policies.

SDGs and Smart Port
The project defines a set of indicators able to express the contribution of the port activities to the SDGs, also considering the new processes generated by the new technologies introduction. The reference context is that of “Horizon 2020 Corealis”, an European initiative which proposes a strategic framework with a view to making ports capable of fighting any future challenge.

SDGs SIE funds Index
On the basis of the “City Index”, the project expects, during the current year, the collection and the analysis of the existing methodology over the linkages between SDGs in the international literature; during 2020, the definition and the application of a synthetic sustainability index of those programmes that are supported by the European Structural and Investment Funds (ESI Funds), in order to measure their contribution to the 2030 Agenda and to compare the European regions’ programmes (ERDF and ESF).

Main Results and Outputs

SDSN Italia SDGs City Index
The index shows how, fixing at 100% the full achievement of the international targets, Italian cities have achieved 53% on average. There is no city having achieved more than 80% of complex sustainability, no one less than 20%. Therefore, there is a real need for a higher and more active involvement of local authorities in order to implement the SDGs.

2030 Agenda regionalization
The process of declining sustainability provides a varied framework of our country’s situation, in which the expected outputs, representing the northern regions as the best performing ones, are not always confirmed. The Report aims to assist regional leaders in defining those policies that are more suitable to their respective territories, and at the same time it tries to raise awareness of the public sector and the civil society on their territories’ sustainability status.

SDGs and Smart Port
Many are the linkages and the synergies between the SDGs as they appear in the 2030 Agenda and in the Italian Strategy for Sustainable Development, the KPI of the port and the Corealis project. The deriving tool of best practice represents a way to disseminate culture for those interested in policy making and advising, as well as to develop initiatives related to digital transformation, integrated logistics and Smart Port.

SDGs SIE funds Index
The expected outputs concern the analysis of possible relations between the European Funds and the SDGs achievement. The final study will flow into a scientific report that will be disclosed as an example to be reproduced elsewhere.
