Localizing the 2030 Agenda

SDGs Index for Provinces and Metropolitan Cities: The Index provides the level of implementation of the SDGs in 106 Italian provinces and metropolitan cities, based on 57 indicators over 16 SDGs, and it aims to raise awareness and disseminate culture on sustainable development, in order to help local leaders identify their territories’ priorities and thus establish the target areas for their policies.

Logistics of the future of Sustainable Smart Ports: The project defines a set of indicators able to express the contribution of the port activities to the SDGs, also considering the new processes generated by the new technologies introduction, specifically the 5G. The reference context is that of “Horizon 2020 Corealis”, an European initiative which proposes a strategic framework with a view to making ports capable of fighting any future challenge.

SDGs SIE funds: On the basis of the City Index, the project expects the definition and the application of a synthetic sustainability index of those programmes that are supported by the European Structural and Investment Funds (ESI Funds), in order to measure their contribution to the 2030 Agenda and to compare the European regions’ programmes (ERDF and ESF).

SDGs Portal: Starting from the results of the City Index, the project aims at presenting the results of the report on cities (FEEM 2018) and those of the updated version (FEEM 2020) within an online platform - created for German local authorities - and thus facilitating the comparison with other European realities.

Main Results and Outputs

SDGs Index for Provinces: The Index shows great performances of Italian Provinces and Metropolitan Cities in Goal 13 "Climate action", but also in Goals 8 "Decent work and economic growth", 12 "Responsible consumption and production" and 16 “Peace, justice and strong institutions”. However, the challenges our territories as a whole must face with priority concern gender equality (SDG 5) and the reduction of inequalities (SDG 10), but also SDGs 9, Industry, innovation and infrastructure, 7, Affordable and clean energy, and 17, Partnership for the goals. The document raises awareness of civil societies and facilitates collaboration of local administrators for the definition of a reference strategy with common indicators, from which they can articulate progress and share existing challenges.

Logistics of the future of Sustainable Smart Ports: Many are the linkages and the synergies between the SDGs as they appear in the 2030 Agenda and in the Italian Strategy for Sustainable Development, the KPIs of the port and the Corealis project. Specifically, the analysis shows how 5G connectivity is able to create about 60 direct or indirect benefits for the Port, specifically promoting Goals 8, 11, 12 and 13 of the 2030 international Agenda. The deriving tool of best practice represents a way to disseminate culture for those interested in policy making and advising, as well as to develop initiatives related to digital transformation, integrated logistics and Smart Port.

SDGs SIE funds: The outputs concern the analysis of possible relations between the European Funds and the SDGs achievement. The analysis will flow into the creation of a synthetic Index, which will measure the degree of sustainability of the programs; finally, a scientific report that will be disclosed as an example to be reproduced elsewhere will be published.

SDGs Portal: The data of the City Index (FEEM 2018) and of its updated version (forthcoming) have flowed into the German Platform of the Bertelsmann Foundation, which will soon receive data from other European realities. Through the digital version, it is not only possible to consider the results by city, Goal by Goal, but also to practically view the trend of the territories after years.
