Today, on June 7, 2014,  FEEM celebrates its 25th anniversary, witnessing a long standing commitment to excellence in scientific research. Our warmest gratitude goes to all those who have contributed to the success of FEEM’s past and present activities. As for the future, we are confident that with the support of our funders and the enthusiasm of our researchers and staff, FEEM will continue to contribute to research and support policy in facing the global challenges our society is confronted with today.

On June 7, 1989, Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei  was officially recognized by  the President of the Italian Republic as a non profit, non partisan research institution devoted to the study of sustainable development and global governance.

Today, on June 7, 2014,  FEEM celebrates its 25th anniversary, witnessing a long standing commitment to excellence in scientific research. Indeed, the results of these first twenty five years  speak for themselves: 2,360 working papers published, 77 books, 60 events organized on average per year, and the creation of an international network of hundreds of researchers and over 600 institutions working to advance the frontiers of knowledge on sustainable development.

In these twenty five years FEEM has achieved a leading position within the global research community. It has created an international and multidisciplinary network, it has provided training to foster the accumulation of human capital inside and outside the organization, and it has disseminated research results through a wide range of outreach activities for the academic and policy spheres, at both local and global level.

In recent years FEEM, while consolidating its research activities around the two research programmes on “Climate Change and Sustainable Development” and “Energy: Resources and Markets”, has also developed new strands of research at the forefront of the global economic agenda. Indeed, in 2014 FEEM research and dissemination also advanced well within the new programme on “Economy and Society”, promoting a multidisciplinary approach to scientific research on the human and social dimension of economic progress and civilization.

Many are the activities promoted and developed by FEEM and we cannot list them all here. However, one of FEEM’s latest achievements we are pleased to highlight on the occasion of our 25th anniversary, is the launch of a new series of FEEM Lectures aimed at reaching out to a broader public, ranging from researchers and scholars to professionals, policy makers and the civil society. These lectures, organized in particular within the “Economy and Society” research programme, are delivered by leading experts and opinion leaders from the academia, institutions and international organizations, and are focused on the complex cultural, economic and geostrategic challenges posed by globalization. A new dedicated series of publications devoted to these Lectures, FEEM Press, has also been  launched in 2014.
