Fernando Nardi

Profile

Fernando Nardi is associate professor and director of the WARREDOC (Water Resources Research and Documentation Center) at University for Foreigners of Perugia. His scientific interests pertain to water resources and systems, flood risk management, urban planning and sustainable development. His research outcomes, featured in major international journals, investigate on hydrologic-hydraulic modelling, geospatial information systems and algorithms, Open/Big Data and Citizen Science.

A selection of his major institutional appointments include: coordinating and principal investigator roles of research programs developed by Italian national agencies (ISPRA, CREA), European programs (e.g. Climatic-KIC, Water JPI) and United Nations agencies (e.g. UNESCO, FAO, UNEP, UNECE); since 2017 chair of the Citizens and Hydrology (CANDHY) working group by the International Association of Hydrological Sciences (IAHS); HORIZON 2020 SC5 (Climate Action, Resource Efficiency and Raw Materials) committee member as national expert. He is an hydraulic engineer and holds a PhD in hydrology (2006) from Sapienza University of Rome. He was visiting scholar at Columbia University of New York (2001) and at MIT in Cambridge (2002-2004). Since 2019 he is visiting professor at the Institute of Environment of Florida International University (FIU) and Sustainable Communities theme coordinator of the FIU UNESCO Chair on Sustainable Water Security. Since 2018 he is adjunct professor, teaching the Hydraulic Infrastructures course, at University of Florence.

Since 2019 he is Scientific Coordinator of the project “Water and SDGs” of the Agenda 2030 reseach area at Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei.
