Anna Alberini received her PhD in Economics from the University of California, San Diego, in 1992. She is a Professor in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics of the University of Maryland, College Park, where she teaches econometrics and statistics to undergraduate and PhD students. She joined FEEM in January 2003 as the Co-ordinator of the Research Programme “Sustainability Indicators and Environmental Valuation.” She served at FEEM as the coordinator or scientific coordinator of several Europeam projects now completed such as VERHI Children, INTELCITIES, SUST-A-TEST, cCASHh, MFSTEP and PURGE.
Anna Alberini specializes in environmental and energy economics, with a special focus on valuation of natural and non-market resources, stated preference methods, estimation and valuation of health effects of environmental quality, and hazardous waste policy, contaminated land policies. Much of her environmental economics research focuses on the valuation of mortality and morbidity risk reductions delivered by environmental policies.  Her energy economics work focuses on residential energy consumption and on the adoption and effects of energy efficiency technologies in people’s homes. She has worked with data from large surveys (panel data and multi-year cross sections) in the US and UK, with panel datasets documenting energy usage at monthly frequency and adoption of technologies in Maryland homes, and with high-frequency panel datasets from a time-of-use trial in the Republic of Ireland. She has also designed and implemented surveys about energy use and adoption of renewables in Maryland, in Italy, and other countries. Alberini serves on the energy statistics committee for the US Department of Energy.
Her work has appeared in the Energy Journal, Energy Economics, the Review of Economics and Statistics, the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management, the Journal of Urban Economics, the Journal of Regulatory Economics, Land Economics, the Journal of Risk and Uncertainty, Water Resources Research, Regional Science and Urban Economics, Contemporary Economic Policy, Risk Analysis, Journal of Cultural Economics, Journal of Environmental Planning and Management, Environmental and Resource Economics, and Global Environmental Change. Alberini was an editor of the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management from 2000 to 2004, and and served two stints on the US Environmental Protection Agency Science Advisory Board for Environmental Economics.
