The increasingly policy-driven demand for biofuels and concerns that available technologies are falling short of expectations increase the pressure for the development of advanced biofuel technologies. However, uncertainty remains on their potential for success and cost reductions. FEEM researchers Valentina Bosetti, Michela Catenacci, Giulia Fiorese and Elena Verdolini briefly investigate these issues and report the information gathered from a survey of leading European experts on the future of advanced biofuel technologies.
