The Italian water sector has encompassed major changes since law 96/94 revolutionized in principle the traditional financial model almost fully based on public funds. While important uncertainty in the sector still persists today, the purpose of the paper presented in the seminar is to provide regulators with guidelines that could be used to revise water tariffs in a way that may be cost-efficient, sustainable and fair. The paper, authored by UniBocconi’s researchers, also investigates the roles of both ownership structure and politics in the efficiency of firms.
