The seminar will be given by S. Pareglio and G. Guastella on March 6, 2018 at the Catholic University of Milan.

The growing rates of urban expansion, which have characterized contemporary cities since the 1980s, lead to a reflection in the light of socio-demographic dynamics. The seminar will be an opportunity to discuss the main empirical evidence on the determinants of urban growth and to address some of the current issues related to the development of cities. More specifically: the lack of institutional attention to the problem of land consumption in small and medium-sized cities; the relationships between large and medium-small cities within metropolitan areas; metropolitan governance. The seminar will also be an opportunity to present some of the most promising research on the possible environmental effects related to urban expansion.
