2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development 2nd Anniversary
On
September 25, 2015 the United Nations adopted the universal plan of action: “Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”. The Agenda
is a call to action for people, planet and prosperity and seeks to strengthen
peace and freedom globally. Moreover, the plan pinpoints that eradicating
poverty, including extreme poverty, is the greatest global challenge and an
indispensable requirement for sustainable development. The universal Agenda
includes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 169 targets. They are integrated
balancing the three dimensions of sustainable development: the economic, social
and environmental. They pursue to realize the human rights of all and to
achieve gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls. On
September 25, 2017, FEEM – among others institutions all over the world –
celebrates the second anniversary of this action plan, in particular its
implementation at the local, national and European level. More specifically,
FEEM calls to push the European Commission to act and set-up a strategy to
implement it. In this framework, FEEM supports the European confederation of Relief and Development NGOs (CONCORD), which represents 2,600 NGOs to the European
Union. More specifically, FEEM shall accede to the #BlowTheCandle
initiative, the main aim of which is to call European leaders to turn the 2030
Agenda into reality.
