Position for a Researcher in Environmental and Socio-Economic Indicators Development

Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei (FEEM) is looking for a qualified and motivated researcher to fill a position in the field of Environmental and Socio-Economic Indicators. The successful candidate will join the ADAPT@VE team at FEEM, a research group dedicated to understanding and addressing the challenges of climate change adaptation and sustainability in complex social and ecological systems. Within this team, the candidate will focus primarily on the EUROLakes project, a European research initiative aimed at advancing the protection and restoration of natural lake ecosystems through the development of integrated landscape approaches.

FEEM is a leading research institute specializing in sustainable development. It offers a stimulating research atmosphere characterized by interdisciplinary collaboration facilitated by its diverse and international team of professionals. Additionally, FEEM maintains robust global partnerships with research institutions, particularly in the field of environmental sciences, providing ample opportunities for extensive research and the sharing of findings through participation in international conferences and engagement with stakeholders.

Selection and development of environmental and socio-economic indicators.

This involves: Identifying and developing environmental and socio-economic indicators; Engaging with stakeholders, including policymakers and local communities, to translate their interests into formal and rigorous criteria and indicators; Organizing and managing workshops and one-on-one meetings with stakeholders to ensure the co-development of relevant indicators; Maintaining and monitoring the indicators throughout the project’s lifecycle; Contributing to the project’s broader objectives by ensuring that the selected indicators effectively measure the success of the restoration efforts.

Additionally, the candidate will support – in a minor capacity – the execution of other tasks assigned to FEEM within the EUROLakes project, providing assistance where needed to ensure the successful completion of the project’s goals.

The candidate will also be asked to contribute to internal activities such as seminars, webinars, and participation in conferences, workshops, and stakeholder events. As part of their duties, the candidate will finalize the research efforts in scientific articles, book chapters, and non-technical products with societal impact like policy briefs.

To qualify for the job, you must have strong quantitative skills, which you can demonstrate with at least an MSc degree in a relevant field such as ecology, environmental engineering, environmental economics, or related disciplines. The ideal candidate will also have:
