On January 12-13, 2012 FEEM is organizing an international workshop on "Financial Speculation in the Oil Market and the Determinants of the Oil Price".

The workshop, which will be held in Milan, will bring together top-level representatives from the academy, financial community and policy sphere and will discuss recent methodological approaches and results on the role of financial speculation in the oil market and the major determinants of the oil price. Aim of the debate will be answering relevant questions, such as: Is it meaningful to define and measure speculation? Is speculation correlated to oil futures price dynamics and volatility? Which fundamental factors can help explain oil price dynamics? How should institutions and regulation adapt and respond?
