E’ inoltre autore di diversi libri di divulgazione, di articoli di interesse generale e di articoli su quotidiani di interesse nazionale.

"Regional Assessment of Climate Change in the Mediterranean" is a three-volume compendium that summarizes four years of research within the CIRCE Integrated Project, coordinated by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology in Italy. In the text, the variability and climate trends in the Mediterranean basin and their relationship to global climate change are examined. Based on the analysis of changes in weather, water, agriculture and socio-economic impacts, such as those of migration, health and tourism, intervention strategies, through the observation of eleven particularly significant case studies, are identified. The first volume reviews current knowledge of observed climate variability and trends in the Mediterranean, including descriptions of available temperature and precipitation station and gridded data sets. The second one, subtitled “Agriculture, Forests and Ecosystem Services”, focuses on ecosystem services and the socio-economic impacts of climate change in the Mediterranean region. The third volume is dedicated to the results of case-studies performed in CIRCE. The case studies collected represent urban, rural and coastal environments, drawn from the north and the south of the Mediterranean shore. Discussion also includes the involvement of stakeholders, the level of engagement and the data and knowledge indicators used in the assessment and adaptation strategies.

Antonio Navarra is the President of the Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change. Born in Naples in 1956, he graduated in Physics in Bologna in 1980 and returned to Italy in 1986 after a PhD at the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory in Princeton. He is Dirigente di Ricerca of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology. Dr. Navarra has been a member of the Consiglio Direttivo of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology and of the National Institute of Astrophysics. He’s an Affiliate Scientist of the National Center for Atmospheric Research in the US and a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Asia-Pacific Climate Center in South Korea. He has been active in the investigation of the dynamical mechanisms that control climate on a global scale, with a special focus on the natural climatic variability of the atmosphere-ocean system on interannual to decadal or centennial scale.

The broad aim of his research is to understand the principal modes of climate variability on interannual and decadal scale (teleconnections) through statistical models, numerical simulation and simplified models. A second sector of activity concerns the simulation and evaluation of climate change through future climate scenarios.

Dr. Navarra teaches in the “Climate Change Science and Management” Ph.D program at Ca’ Foscari University in Venice. During his career, he has published more than 90 articles in international peer-reviewed journals; he has also edited and written numerous professional books. Moreover, he has published several popular books and shorter articles of broader interest in the general press.
