Abstract

What is the African perspective on sustainable development in Sub-Saharan Africa?

The survival and prosperity of this subcontinent are conditional on the achievement of the SDGs, with a special emphasis on the areas related to health, education and agriculture.

These areas are more directly related to SDGs 2 (zero hunger), 3 (good health and well-being) and 4 (quality education), which are essential for Africa’s sustainable development.

With African leaders currently seeking alternative solutions to achieve the national and continental objectives of the SDGs, experts and activists are calling for urgent resources to finance the program.

A report by the Sustainable Development Goals Centre for Africa states that African countries will need to raise more than USD 500 billion in additional funding each year if they are to achieve their development goals by 2030.

Belay Begashaw stressed that there is no time to waste when it comes to financing priority areas. "We said that all the SDGs are extremely important, but some of them are more important than others when it comes to Africa," he said.

Begashaw described the problems encountered. Many uncoordinated activities have been launched to achieve the SDGs in Sub-Saharan Africa, and there has been some confusion with local communities, whose overall needs have often remained unheeded.
