In this study, we questioned the ability of European electricity TSOs to achieve unprecedented capital expenditures, given their current financial situation.
We identified a significant financing gap in case of a steady  increase in tariffs, wondered what would be the costs for users to meet the whole investment program, and assessed the potential for alternative financing strategies to dampen the impact on transmission tariffs.
