Climate Week NYC is an annual summit boasting high-level meetings between the world’s leading businesses and governments and an exciting array of public-facing events, all focused on advancing a 'clean industrial revolution'.

This side event presents and discusses approaches and methodologies to measure, verify and assess Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The real future challenge with SDGs will indeed be threefold:

  • how to identify and measure a set of indicators that can appropriately capture the past and future dynamics of Sustainable Development Goals;
  • how to verify progress towards SDGs in different countries and how to compare efforts and speed towards the goals;
  • how to design the most appropriate policies to achieve Sustainable Development Goals, and therefore how to assess the possible impacts on SDGs of various policy measures. This side event will focus on these three objectives and will highlight different approaches to achieve them.
  • In particular, the side event will present the first results of FEEM’s APPS (Assessment, Projections and Policy of Sustainable Development Goals) project. This project has developed a methodology to integrate SDGs into a macroeconomic model of the world economy, thus allowing an ex-ante, prospective analysis of Sustainable Development Goals. FEEM’s integrated modeling framework also allows the evaluation of the effectiveness of policies conceived to address specific dimensions of sustainability, thus highlighting the required amount of financial resources, the time to reduce the gap with the target, and the synergies and trade-offs across different goals.

    Preliminary results for about 140 countries will be shown, as well as a preliminary sustainability ranking. Experts from governments and other relevant organizations will provide their input to assess and further improve the proposed methodologies.
