"Bridging the clean energy R&D” is organised as part of the first conference of the SIMPATIC project. Massimo Tavoni from Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei (FEEM) will give a keynote-speech on "Innovative strategies for dealing with climate change", followed by comments from Georg Zachmann, Bruegel and Ralf Martin, Imperial.

Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei (FEEM) has contributed valuable analysis to the international climate debate based on the integrated assessment model WITCH that it developed. The model’s unique ability to represent endogenous technology diffusion allowed studying the role of innovation for dealing with climate change. Massimo Tavoni, the deputy coordinator of the Climate Change programmes at FEEM will present innovative work on the potential role of negative emission technologies (such as CCS for biofueled power plants),  the relation between abatement and geo-engineering, and the need for early investments in "clean energy R&D".
