Position for a Senior Researcher on Energy Geopolitics and Geoeconomics of the Global Energy Transition and Great Powers (USA, EU, China) at Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei (FEEM)

Job Description
In the context of a project on the Geopolitics and Geo-economics of the Global Energy Transition, Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei is seeking a Senior Researcher with background/experience in international affairs, geo-economics and energy transition. The project will assess the decarbonization strategies of the United States of America, the European Union and People’s Republic of China (both domestically and with the rest of the World) between cooperation and competition, and to potentially gain global leadership.
The candidate will join an interdisciplinary team which carries out scientifically sound, prospective and policy-oriented applied research, targeted at political and business decision makers. This aim is achieved through an integrated quantitative and qualitative analysis of energy scenarios and policies.
This innovative and interdisciplinary approach puts together the major factors driving the change in global energy dynamics (i.e. technology, economy, institutions, finance, geopolitics and sociological aspects). There will be opportunities to also work in cooperation with other leading international relations research centers globally.
The position is in principle full-time, but for very experienced experts already having other appointments (e.g. at a University or in a Think Tanks) it could also be part-time in order to be compatible with other related part time appointments.
The candidate will publish extensively including in top field journals.

The ideal candidate is in possession of a PhD degree and has a relevant post-PhD experience in the fields of International Relations or Political Economics ideally applied to energy and the energy transition. Candidates with a Master’s degree and a solid background in working with international relations and political economy related to the energy transition and industrial policy areas are also encouraged to apply.
The candidate should have a deep understanding on energy relations and international affairs and experience working with US, EU and/or China energy affairs and foreign policy. A solid international network with leading organizations working on these subjects and a proven fundraising track-record is an important asset. Candidates with experience working with data analysis are favored. Proficiency in English is required, additional languages (particularly Chinese) are a plus.

The project will allow the candidate to enhance his/her knowledge on major international and energy affairs, work in an interdisciplinary team, participating to discussions with leading global experts; during the project the candidate will (co-)author publications in relevant journals; within the project’s aims and scope, the candidate will also have some room to carry out autonomous research.
