Position for a researcher in the “Agenda 2030” Cross-Cutting Area

Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei (FEEM), a leading research institute and think tank, focused on fostering a better understanding of sustainable development and providing timely and objective analysis on a wide range of environmental, energy and global economic issues, aims at recruiting a motivated and talented researcher. The Agenda 2030 research group is searching for a candidate with a solid background in business, economics and statistics. The candidate should ideally hold a relevant experience in applied geo-econometrical approaches.


The research activity will be multidisciplinary, mainly dealing with water-energy-food nexus topics. Research activities include spatial analysis of economic and environmental data at Italian and international level with a focus for the Sub-Saharian Africa. The candidate must jointly work with researchers of other disciplines, both engineers and economists, to develop a complete analysis of energy and water nexus, with special focus on some countries already object of study.

The candidate's contribution will be focused, but not limited to, on the following key activities:

  • Use geo-spatial data and interface them with environmental and socio-economic data;
  • Participate in the formulation of relevant policy recommendations for both public institutions and private companies;
  • Organize and participate in conferences and workshops;
  • Write research reports, as well as dissemination reports and political information.

The selected applicant will be based in our beautiful location in Milan, and will be part of a truly multidisciplinary workplace, dealing with projects on different subjects. (S)he will interact with researchers and institutions from different nationalities and have the opportunity to present scientific papers at international conferences and workshops.


  • Good understanding of micro and macroeconomics, statistics and water management;
  • Expertise in statistics especially, with geo-reference data is highly preferred;
  • Econometric statistical analysis and spatial interaction models (gravity models) for spatial dependence on geo socio-economic environmental data (trade, migration, food and water trade, ..);
  • Previous work experience in the University, energy and/or water industry, consultancy or business-oriented research is a plus;
  • Academic background: economics, statistics or business school; Minimum: master level;
  • Strong motivation for interdisciplinary energy and water studies is needed;
  • Creative mind, good writing and communication skills;
  • Written and spoken proficiency in English is mandatory (all our reports and workshops/conferences are in English).
