Position for a researcher in energy geopolitics/geoeconomics for the “Future Energy” Research Program

Description
The researcher will work in the field of energy geopolitics and energy geoeconomics. The research activities will include the analysis of the main geopolitical and geoeconomic trends concerning energy in regions such as: Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, Russia, the Caspian, Central Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. The contribution of the candidate will be focused on – but not limited to – the following key activities:

  • Explore current geopolitical situations and potential geopolitical scenarios in the regions of interest, analysing the key political and economic factors underpinning energy market developments;
  • Analyse the geopolitical and geoeconomic implications of the global low-carbon transition, particularly looking at the regions of interest also to investigate economic diversification plans in oil and gas exporting countries;
  • Participate in formulating relevant policy recommendations for both public institutions and energy companies;
  • Organise and participate in conferences and workshops;
  • Write research reports as well as dissemination reports and policy briefs.

The selected applicant will be based in our beautiful location in Milan, and will be part of a truly multidisciplinary workplace, dealing with projects on different subjects. (S)he will interact with researchers and institutions from different nationalities and have the opportunity to present scientific papers at international conferences and workshops.

Requirements

  • Good understanding of the geopolitics and geoeconomics of energy at global level, and in particular in the regions of interest;
  • Have a clear, cross-sectorial picture of the political and economic dynamics related to the the energy market;
  • Previous work experience in the energy industry, think-tanks or consultancy is a plus;
  • Academic background: international relations, international political economy, political science, strategic studies; Minimum: master level
  • Strong motivation for interdisciplinary energy studies is needed;
  • Creative mind, good writing and communication skills;
  • Written and spoken proficiency in English is mandatory (all our reports and workshops/conferences are in English), French as well as Russian and Arabic is a plus.
