FEEM 20th Anniversary Prize in environmental economics
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of its foundation, Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei will bestow the FEEM 20th Anniversary Prize at the 4th World Congress of Environmental and Resource Economists that will be held in Montreal on June 28-July 2. The Prize will be awarded on June 30 to a researcher or a group of researchers from anywhere in the world who have most significantly contributed to the development of the field of environmental and resource economics over the 20-year period 1989 to 2009.

European Dialogue on the energy and climate challenge
FEEM co-organized the second meeting of the European Dialogue on the Energy and Climate Challenge, hosted in Warsaw by the Polish National Centre for Emissions Management on June 23-24. After discussing the recent EC communication on EU climate change policies, the meeting focused on the analysis of strategic opportunities towards a low-carbon power sector in the new member states, on the challenges and opportunities for financing climate policies, as well as on the key policy challenges in the transport sector.
The 2010 International Energy Workshop
The International Energy Workshop (IEW) 2010, held in Stockholm on June 21-23, was attended by several FEEM researchers who illustrated and compared their research on future climate, energy and economic scenarios, with outstanding scientists in the field. FEEM indeed presented the results of the EC funded project "Probabilistic Long-term Assessment of New Energy Technology Scenarios - PLANETS" during four special sessions at the workshop. The project PLANETS aims to devise robust scenarios for the evolution of energy technologies in the next 50 years.
FEEM and KPMG publish the 2009 Privatization Barometer Annual Report
As of 2010 KPMG becomes the unique partner of Privatization Barometer, the internet portal dedicated to privatization processes in the enlarged Europe launched and managed by FEEM since 2004. The publication of the 2009 Privatization Barometer Annual Report represents the first step of a long term strategic partnership between FEEM and KPMG that will provide data, research skills and financial resources to the project.
Sustainability indicators in policy making
On May 24-25, FEEM organized in Venice an international workshop on the analysis and comparison of different approaches and measures to assess sustainability. The workshop addressed the definition of sustainability and the use of indicators and aggregate indices; the methodologies adopted for the aggregation and construction of indicators; and the operationalization of sustainability. The workshop was preceded by a conference of Professor Amartya Sen, Nobel Prize laureate, on sustainability indicators, jointly organized with the University of Venice.
Institutions for climate governance
Renowned scholars from the academic world gathered at FEEM in Venice on May 20-21 for the international workshop on "Institutions for Climate Governance", jointly organized with ICCG, CMCC and the Harvard Project on International Climate Agreements, Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. Aim of the meeting was to discuss the institutional setting of future climate policies. In particular the workshop addressed the role of organizations in setting, negotiating and implementing climate agreements and the contribution of research to the design of more effective institutions for climate policy from the economic, political science, international relations, and legal perspectives.
FEEM and Monitor Group release the Sovereign Wealth Fund Annual Report 2009
On May 18, 2010, FEEM and Monitor Group released the Sovereign Wealth Fund Annual Report 2009 entitled "Back on Course: Sovereign Wealth Fund Activity in 2009". The report shows that in Q3 SWFs have emerged with long-term strategies around investments, focusing on a wider range of markets and avoiding the financial sector. As previously predicted, the funds have picked up investment pace again, but are approaching risk differently having learned from the losses they suffered in 2008.
