Climate Change Economic Impacts and Adaptation

The 'Climate Change Economic Impacts and Adaptation - EIA' research program carries out multidisciplinary and multi-methodological research aimed at assessing the economic impacts of climate change and the costs/benefits of both autonomous and planned adaptation.

Research in this area focuses on the following topics:

  • spatially-resolved assessment of the economic impacts of climate change;
  • adaptation and economic development;
  • climate change and migrations;
  • climate change and Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs);
  • water and disaster risk management;
  • economic assessment of climate change impacts on ecosystems.

A multiplicity of integrated methodological approaches are used, including:

  • multi country and multi sector macroeconomic models for long-term scenario analyses;
  • statistical and econometric tools;
  • multi-criteria risk analyses.

Another distinctive trait of this research area is its transdisciplinarity. Economic assessment is the final step of a process involving the preliminary quantification of climatic drivers and the assessment of physical environmental effects.
