Two years have passed since the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by the United Nations. It is definitely too early to assess the whole process for the achievement of SDGs, but it is possible to take stocks of the effort already in place.

On one hand, policymakers are trying to conciliate global level of ambition of SDG targets with country-specific aspirations and constraints. On the other hand, scholars and statistical offices are constantly refining measures to assess progresses towards SDGs, their interrelations, the factors that can hinder their achievement, side-effects or spillovers that policy may originate.

The first session acknowledges the multidimensional and holistic features of sustainable development, placing a particular emphasis on potential synergies and trade-offs across SDGs and target-specific policies. The second session focuses on the evaluation of policies for SDGs. It will introduce the 2017 ASviS Report “L’Italia e gli Obiettivi di Sviluppo Sostenibile“ offering a country specific assessment of an integrated policy mix to meet Agenda 2030. Furthermore, it will discuss data and indicators requirements, not neglecting the overall issue of governance necessary for coherent and shared policy architecture.
